In the mid 1970's Lake View Ranch started on a journey to save the Appaloosa horse as a breed. We started with an old mare named NIFTY GIRL who was as pure an Appaloosa as it was possible to be. In her 3rd and 4th generation were both Toby*s, Knobby. Patchy, Snow cloud and Snow cloud 2 and Sid Volin. Now that is foundation breeding!!! Does it get any better than that!!! There were no lapses in her pedigree. She was all Appaloosa. Along with her, we purchased her two daughters by Leopard King W. and the stallion Leopard King W. He was a Pepper Shamrock grandson on the top and a Patches JR. Grandson (CRHA) on the bottom. We also purchased the young stallion Kowalski Blue Chip who had Chief Malheur, Pepper Face, The Toby*s, Chief Handprint, Ralstons Sheba all in his close up pedigree. We never looked back and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER crossed them with another breed. Those horses grandsons and granddaughters are my herd today. Through the years I have bought a few more stallions, always trying to stay as pure as possible. There is a small amount of old quarter horse and JC way back (done in the 1940's and 50's) and of course even further back some US remounts that were of Morgan and JC breeding. I have always bought stallions that complemented these lines and it has paid off in quality.
We have REAL Appaloosas, with loud color, not a mixed breed with Appaloosa color. There is a BIG difference.
Our horses are born on lush, wide open pastures and allowed to be baby horses till weaning time. They see and are not afraid of humans but are not forced to be anything but babies. I believe this makes for a safer, happier animal in the long run. In running with Mom they learn where is safe and what is not and we very rarely have an animal hurt itself as they have learned how not to.
They are kind, highly intelligent, have beautiful heads and large soft eyes and are a pleasure to break and handle. Their conformation and movement is superb and they have strong bone and hoof structure. You will see the big beautiful floating sporthorse movement and shuffling blood runs deep here also.
Please check them out.
